This plan took into account the daily routine of residents at the health care institution Dichterbij. This routine consists of getting up, getting ready, having breakfast, daytime activities, afternoon nap, evening meal, free time, and then back to bed. As the residents’ daily routine is well structured, it has little variation. In order to increase the range of daytime activities, the design takes account of the size and use of wheelchairs so as to promote residents’ independence and enable them to participate in various activities. It also focuses on creating a multi-purpose environment in the public areas.
